Photo
exhibit highlights 'Florida vernacular'
The Southeast
Museum of Photography’s Lyonia Gallery is
featuring the works of documentary photographer
Rick Lang through Oct. 24. The gallery is in the
Lyonia Environmental Center (LEC), which is part
of the Deltona Regional Library complex at 2150
Eustace Ave., Deltona.
Lang, director
of photography at the Crealdé School of Art in
Winter Park, uses black-and-white photography to
display the history and culture of the American
South. His exhibition, “Florida Vernacular,”
presents 25 images of vernacular subject matter
that reveal the often simple signs and buildings
from Florida, his home state. The images
demonstrate his commitment to documenting the
signs and symbols used by everyday residents to
make their voices and opinions public.
The Lyonia
Gallery is operated by the Southeast Museum of
Photography in partnership with the LEC. The
gallery presents exhibitions and programs
related to the environment, land use, local
history and regional culture.
The LEC is open
from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and
Wednesdays; 9 a.m. - 7:30 p.m. Thursdays; 9 a.m.
- 5 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays; and 1 - 5 p.m.
Sundays. Admission to the gallery and
environmental center is free.
