Lyonia Environmental
Center to host Scrub Jay Festival Feb. 20
The Lyonia
Environmental Center (LEC) will host a Florida
Scrub Jay Festival from 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Saturday, Feb. 20. Events
schedule listed below.
The family
event will celebrate the Florida scrub jay, the
only bird unique to Florida. Visitors will learn
about the bird, which is a threatened species,
and the scrub habitat where it makes its home.
The festival
will offer live music in the Deltona
Amphitheater, guided nature walks in Lyonia
Preserve, presentations and activities for
children in the LEC, and environmental displays
in the Deltona Regional Library auditorium.
Admission to
the festival, the environmental center and
Lyonia Preserve will be free.
The festival is
supported by the LEC and the education committee
of the Northeast Florida Scrub Working Group.
The education committee was formed to create
educational opportunities, promote conservation,
and increase awareness of scrub habitat and the
Florida scrub jay.
The LEC is part
of the Deltona Regional Library complex at 2150
Eustace Ave. It is open from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays; from 9 a.m. -
7:30 p.m. Thursdays; from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Fridays and Saturdays; and from 1 - 5 p.m.
Sundays.
